A hatchback is the sweet spot for most short rentals — small enough to thread through traffic and park anywhere, but with a tailgate boot that folds flat and holds far more than the silhouette suggests. A flat-pack run to IKEA Tampines, a weekend of groceries, a pram and a stroller: it all goes in.
Our hatchbacks are recent autos in the Honda Jazz and Suzuki Swift family, light on fuel and genuinely fun to drive in town. The higher seating and big glass make them easy to place in a tight multi-storey lot, which matters more in Singapore than outright size.
If you are deciding between economy and a hatchback, the extra few dollars a day mostly buys you boot space and a slightly comfier drive. For a single person or a couple doing city errands, it is often the most practical car on the fleet without stepping up to a full sedan.
