The East Coast Bedroom
A client living minutes from East Coast Park wanted her bedroom to feel like the unhurried mornings she loved on weekends — light, breezy and free of the visual noise that kept her awake. A single-room styling project, done in four weeks, working entirely around the bed and wardrobe she already owned.
The brief
A calm, coastal master bedroom that helps a light sleeper switch off: pale and airy, soft textures, almost nothing on the surfaces, and a reading corner she’d actually use instead of scrolling in bed.
What we did
We stripped the room back to breathing space. Out went the cluttered dresser-top and the dark heavy curtains; in came sheer linen drapes that move with the breeze, a pale washed-oak bench at the foot of the bed, and bedding in cloud, sand and the faintest sage. The palette is barely-there on purpose — the eye finds nowhere to snag, and the room finally feels restful.
A small armchair, a slim floor lamp and a stack of her favourite books turned the unused corner into a proper reading nook, with a woven basket for throws. We added one piece of soft abstract art above the bed and stopped there. Restraint is the whole design. She messaged a week later to say she’s sleeping better — the best review a bedroom can get.
