A thick frozen acai base under granola, banana, fresh berries and a drizzle of peanut butter.
The acai bowl is the build people photograph before they eat it, and we are fine with that — it should look as good as it tastes. We blend frozen acai thick enough to hold a spoon, then top it with our own toasted granola, sliced banana, fresh berries and a drizzle of peanut butter.
Acai itself is tart and not very sweet, so the toppings matter: the banana and granola carry the sweetness, the berries keep it fresh, and the peanut butter ties it together. You can swap toppings freely — coconut flakes, extra granola, a scoop of protein.
It is substantial enough to be brunch, which is exactly how the Tiong Bahru weekend crowd treats it. Eat it within a few minutes though — a melted acai bowl is a sad thing.
