The Family Canvas Lodge is the safari tent grown up. It is a larger two-room canvas structure on a deck: a queen in the main room, a set of sturdy bunks in the second, and a covered deck big enough for a family to eat, play cards and ride out a rain shower together. Parents get a door between them and the kids, which on a camping trip is worth a great deal.
We set it up near the open lawn and the firepit so the children can roam where you can still see them, and the bathroom block is close. There is a proper table, more lantern lighting, a cooler box for drinks and milk, and enough power points for the inevitable devices. It is camping that a family can actually relax into rather than survive.
It is the stay we recommend for a first family trip outdoors or a small extended-family gathering. Book two nights if you can — the first afternoon is mostly settling the kids and the camp, and the magic is really in the second morning when everyone has slowed down.
