Twelve Square Metres
Apartment balcony · East Coast · 2025
A small high-floor balcony, edited into a green corner the owner now takes her morning coffee on.
There is a particular discipline to designing a balcony well — every plant has to earn its place, and the wind at height does not forgive a hopeful choice. We kept the palette deliberately tight: one focal plant, a soft trailing layer, and a band of structure that reads from inside the living room.
Self-watering planters do the heavy lifting so a busy owner is not nursing thirsty pots after a long day. The whole scheme was specified, sourced and installed across two short visits.
It is proof that you do not need a garden to live with green. Twelve square metres, well considered, can change how an entire apartment feels.
