In the chair
A boy’s first few barbershop visits set whether he will sit still for the next twenty years, so we take them seriously and gently. The Father & Son Cut books you both into neighbouring chairs at the same time — dad gets his cut while the boy watches, then it is his turn with someone he has just seen do a calm, friendly job.
We are patient with the young ones: no rushing, plenty of explaining what the buzzing thing does, and a cut that suits a kid rather than a scaled-down adult style. For a genuine first cut we will keep a little snip as a keepsake if you would like one, and we never make a fuss if there are a few tears — we have seen them all.
It is one of our favourite bookings of the week. Plenty of families come in on a Saturday rhythm so both cuts are sorted in one sitting, and the boy grows up thinking the barbershop is just a good place to be.
Who it suits
Dads who want their son’s cut done properly — and want him to grow up comfortable in a barber’s chair.
