What these lessons are like
Playing alone in a lesson is one thing; playing in front of other people is a different skill entirely, and it is one too many students never get to practise. Our Recital & Performance Class is a gentle, low-stakes way to build it — a small group of students playing for one another once a month, in the same friendly room, so that performing slowly becomes normal rather than terrifying.
It is genuinely supportive, never a competition. Students clap for each other, learn to walk on and bow, and get used to the funny feeling of nerves before they channel it into the music. Over a term or two, the difference is remarkable: a child who used to freeze can play a whole piece through and grin at the end.
The class builds towards our termly studio recital, where every student who wishes to can perform for family and friends. It is, for us, one of the best days on the calendar, and the moment many parents finally see for themselves just how far their child has come.
