Woodland Stacking & Sorting Set
Solid wood · age 1+ · price shown is for a single set
A Montessori-style rainbow stacker and sorting tray in solid wood — the calm, classic first toy that grows from grip practice to early counting.
Why we stock it
The first toys a child truly works at are the simple wooden ones, and this stacking and sorting set is a Montessori classic for a reason. A one-year-old starts by grasping a ring and dropping it — pure grip and release practice. A two-year-old begins to order the rings by size; by three they are sorting by colour and counting them out loud. The same humble set quietly carries a child through three developmental stages without a single battery.
We chose solid rubberwood with thick, rounded rings sized to pass the choke-tube test, finished in non-toxic water-based colour that survives the inevitable taste-test of toddlerhood. The base peg is weighted so it will not tip when a determined toddler jams a ring on at speed, which spares a lot of tears. It is satisfyingly heavy and quiet — no flashing lights, no looping jingle, just wood on wood.
For motor skills and early maths it is hard to beat, and it makes a beautiful, useful first-birthday or new-sibling gift. Pair it with the Woodland sorting tray for shape and colour matching as they grow. Open-ended, heirloom-sturdy and exactly the kind of toy that ends up handed down rather than thrown away.
