A wedding is a long day with a handful of moments that have to land, and most of them are not on the stage — they are in how the room feels in between. My job is to hold that feeling steady. We start with your run-sheet and the people in it: who is marching in, who is speaking, which relatives need a gentle cue, where the surprise montage sits, and how much your families want me to lean into the games versus letting the night breathe. I host to your timeline, not a fixed script I reuse every weekend.
On the day that means clear, unhurried march-in announcements, speeches introduced so guests actually listen, a yam seng led with the right build, and a steady hand if the kitchen runs ten minutes late or a VIP arrives early. I keep your coordinator, photographer and AV team in the loop on cues so nobody is guessing, and I read the room — a quiet solemnisation crowd and a rowdy dinner crowd are hosted very differently, and pretending otherwise is how weddings go flat.
I host bilingually when your guest list needs it, so the auntie at table 12 and the colleague from overseas both feel included rather than talked past. Above all I stay out of your spotlight. The best compliment I get is a couple telling me their guests said the night just flowed — which is exactly the point. You should remember your wedding, not the emcee.
