The private double is our cosiest room: one comfortable double bed, a window, storage, and your own lockable door, tucked on the quieter side of the building. It is the room couples book when they want to travel like backpackers but still share a bed and shut the world out at the end of the day.

You keep all the good parts of the hostel — the rooftop, the kitchen you can actually cook in, the lounge full of people who have just been somewhere you are about to go — and trade a dorm bunk for a private nest. The shared bathrooms are a few steps down the hall and kept genuinely clean by a team that lives on site.

For two people, a double here costs less than a single mid-range hotel room across town, and puts you four minutes from the MRT in the most characterful corner of Singapore. It is the budget couple’s sweet spot.
