Cocoa, coffee, a little smoke. A robust, full-flavoured porter with cocoa, espresso and a faint woodsmoke note. Our cooler-months pour and a favourite of the staff.
Foundry Porter is the bigger, bolder sibling of the Low Tide Stout. Where the stout is smooth and gentle, the porter has more body, more roast and a touch of complexity from a small addition of smoked malt that lends a faint, savoury woodsmoke note — a nod to the "kiln" in our name. The flavour runs from milk chocolate to espresso to a dry, roasty finish.
It is a cool-weather beer in spirit, so we tend to brew it for the year-end stretch and the occasional rainy run, rather than keeping it on all year. At 5.6% it has a little more warmth than our session beers without becoming a heavy sipper.
It is the staff's quiet favourite — the pour the brewers reach for at the end of a shift. When it is on, it does not stay on long, so if you spot it on the board, order it before it is gone.
Beef rendang, smoked brisket, a square of dark chocolate.
