This Katong shoebox does one thing — matcha — and does it seriously. The iced matcha latte uses a ceremonial-grade powder whisked to order, so there’s none of that dusty bitterness you get from cheaper blends.
The matcha soft-serve is the move on a hot day; it’s grassy, creamy and not overly sweet. My matcha-sceptic friend finished mine and ordered her own.
Seating is limited to a handful of stools, so it’s more of a grab-and-go. The Peranakan-tiled corner outside makes for a lovely photo while you wait.

A serious little matcha spot that rewards the detour to Katong.
Cafés The Tiong Bahru brunch corner I keep going back to
Fluffy ricotta pancakes, a flat white that actually tastes of coffee, and enough natural light to make your photos do the work for you.
Cafés The CBD roastery where I send every coffee snob
In-house roasting, a rotating filter menu and baristas who’ll happily geek out with you. The best espresso in the financial district, full stop.
Cafés Yes, the West has a great café now — here’s proof
A laminated-pastry programme that would hold its own in town, finally without the cross-island trek.
