The everyday all-rounder. A balanced, lightly hazy pale ale with stone-fruit and orange aromatics over a soft malt base — the beer most regulars end up ordering second.
Canalside Pale is our middle ground, and on most nights it is our best-seller. It is hopped enough to be interesting — apricot, gentle orange peel, a whisper of pine — but it never tips into the aggressive bitterness that puts casual drinkers off. We dry-hop it lightly so the aroma jumps out of the glass without the beer turning into a hop-juice bomb.
The soft, slightly hazy body comes from a portion of oats and wheat in the grist, which also gives it a fuller mouthfeel than its 5.1% suggests. We ferment it a little cooler than a typical ale to keep the yeast clean, letting the hops do the talking.
If Tyrwhitt is the beer that converts sceptics, Canalside is the one that keeps them coming back. It is the pour we recommend when someone has finished a lager and asks "what should I try next?" — a half-step up in flavour, still very easy to drink.
Grilled satay, sambal wings, a sharing board.
