Kindergarten 1 at Little Banyan
Kindergarten 1 is the year children start to see themselves as learners. Shared reading becomes early independent reading, mark-making becomes real writing in a daily journal, and counting grows into investigating — measuring, sorting, predicting and explaining. We keep it joyful and hands-on, because a five-year-old who loves learning will out-pace a five-year-old who has merely been drilled, every single time.
Independence is the quiet theme of the year. Children manage their own belongings, lead parts of circle time, take on classroom jobs and learn to ask for help and resolve small squabbles themselves. These self-management skills matter as much as any academic milestone, and they are exactly what makes the jump to Primary 1 feel exciting rather than frightening.
Throughout K1 we share clear, honest snapshots of where your child is — what they have mastered, what they are working on, and how you can help at home — so there are never any surprises and you are a real partner in the year, not a spectator.
