Inside the Clay & Ceramics Studio course

Makers who want to work with their hands and take home something they can actually use.
What you will get out of it:
- 8 sessions, 2.5 hours each, in the kiln room
- All clay, tools, glazes & two firings included
- Both hand-building and wheel throwing
- A set of finished, food-safe pieces
- Aprons & a clean-up station provided
There is nothing quite like centring clay on the wheel for the first time. This term covers both hand-building — pinch, coil and slab — and the potter's wheel, so you make real, usable things: bowls, mugs, small vessels and a piece or two of your own design.
Clay is a slower craft because of the firing, so the eight weeks are paced around it: we build and trim, bisque-fire, glaze, then fire again in the studio kiln. You learn glaze chemistry in plain language, surface decoration, and how to fix the wobbles every beginner makes. All clay, tools, glazes and both firings are included.
The kiln room is the warm heart of the studio and this is our most sociable class — messy, hands-on and genuinely calming. You go home each term with a small set of finished, food-safe ceramics that you made from a lump of earth, which never stops feeling slightly magic.
Nice things to pair with it
- Add extra clay & glaze for bigger pieces
- Book open kiln-room time between terms
- Gift a single clay taster to a friend
