Adult Adult · beginner to improver
Adult Open Ballet
Ages 17+ · 60 min
Beautifully un-intimidating ballet for adults — true beginners welcome, with a separate improvers class for those returning to barre.
Silver Swans is the Royal Academy of Dance’s ballet programme written specifically for older adults, and our teachers are trained to deliver it. Classes are gentle, sociable and tuned to mobility, balance, posture and coordination — the things that keep us steady and confident as we age — all wrapped in the grace and music of classical ballet.
You do not need to have danced before, and the pace is kind. Exercises can be done with the support of the barre or a chair, and our teacher adapts the class to the room on the day. Just as importantly, it is good company: a warm group who often stay for coffee afterwards.
It is the right class for an older adult who wants to move well, feel graceful and enjoy ballet without any of the intensity. Several of our Silver Swans started in their sixties and seventies having never set foot in a studio.
